What is DoD SkillBridge?

 

The DOD SkillBridge program offers service members the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in civilian industries during their final 180 days of military service. By participating in industry-specific training, apprenticeships, or internships with SkillBridge’s industry partners, transitioning service members acquire real-life job experience that bridges the gap between military and civilian careers. The program benefits both service members, who gain crucial knowledge and skills, and industry partners, who access a highly skilled and motivated workforce at no cost, as participants continue to receive military pay and benefits during their training.

 

Military leaders play a vital role in supporting the transition by endorsing SkillBridge participation for service members nearing the end of their service. With commander approval, including that of a field grade officer, eligible service members can dedicate up to 180 days of permissive duty to full-time training with certified industry partners. These partnerships provide participants with practical, real-world training and allow companies to evaluate service members’ potential for future employment, fostering a smooth transition into civilian careers while strengthening ties between the military and private sector.
